Karl Stefanovic unleashes on Albanese and his critics

Karl Stefanovic has taken aim at Anthony Albanese, branding him among the worst prime ministers while also pushing back at the PM’s suggestion that he has drifted from mainstream media.

The former Today show presenter did not hold back during a fiery appearance on Piers Morgan Uncensored.

Piers Morgan posted a teaser of the interview on X, saying the full conversation would be released later in the week. Stefanovic also reflected on his two decades with Today and delivered a blunt message to his detractors, telling them they could go ‘f*** themselves’.

Stefanovic made his views on Albanese clear, launching into a sharp critique of the Prime Minister.

‘I think personally, and I don’t want to overstate it or draw too many conclusions at this point in his prime ministership, but I think he could be one of the worst prime ministers since Keir Starmer,’ he said.

Morgan laughed at the remark before replying: ‘That bar is low.’

Starmer faced historically weak approval ratings both nationally and inside his own party, a slump that eventually resulted in him announcing in June that he would step down as Labour leader and UK Prime Minister.

After winning office in 2024, he drew criticism over a string of decisions, including scrapping the universal winter fuel allowance for pensioners and raising taxes.

Morgan then took a swing at Albanese and his criticism of Stefanovic.

The Prime Minister had previously claimed Stefanovic had strayed too far to the ‘edges of mainstream political debate’.

The comment referred to Stefanovic and his new podcast The Karl Stefanovic Show, and one of his guests – far-right UK activist Tommy Robinson.

The interview sparked a flurry of backlash and prompted Stefanovic’s departure from the Today Show.

Morgan claimed it was hypocritical of Albanese to slam Stefanovic for straying away from mainstream media, shortly before he then appeared on non-mainstream podcast Bush Deep for an interview and took part in a game of ‘shag, marry, date’.

Albanese was asked by host Nikki Osbourne to choose between Kylie Minogue, Nicole Kidman and Rhonda Burchmore, with the Prime Minister initially reluctant to answer the question, before choosing Minogue.

‘For a Prime Minister of a country, like Australia, to be as coarse as he was on camera about a national treasure, like Kylie, I thought given what he said about you, how is that any different?’ Morgan asked.

‘That’s what stung most,’ Stefanovic said.

‘Discourse is the way through. I think you need to hear these voices, however you prosecute them.

‘I think that we’ve got to have a media landscape that does present these stories, and however you present them.

‘If you don’t like my show, then don’t watch. If you don’t like the interview, then don’t watch.

‘I’m going to continue interviewing people, because I want to know what they’re made of.

‘I stand by Tommy Robinson.’

Stefanovic also shared a foul-mouthed message for his critics as he continues to deal with the fallout of his interview with Robinson and his departure from Nine.

‘I’ve got too much to do, too much I want to do,’ he said.

‘Those people aren’t working in the industry anymore so they can…’

Stefanovic proceeded to raise his middle fingers in the air, prompting Morgan to burst into laughter.

‘Do you want to say it?’

‘Well, they can go f*** themselves,’ Stefanovic said.

Following his interview with Robinson, ARN dropped him from radio show The Long weekend, which he co-hosted alongside Eddie McGuire.

Karl Stefanovic exposes huge problem with Anthony Albanese’s apology

Karl Stefanovic has taken aim at Prime Minister Anthony Albanese over his now-infamous ‘shag, marry, date’ podcast appearance, arguing there is a glaring inconsistency in what Labor chooses to apologise for.

Stefanovic asked why Albanese apologised for the remarks but has not said sorry for policies that draw criticism, such as his overhaul of negative gearing and the capital gains tax discount in the Federal Budget.

‘It’s strange to prioritise apologising for that and not for one of the most publicly despised Budgets of all time. Priorities, priorities. Let’s keep our position for once.’

Stefanovic also claimed the reaction would have been harsher if a conservative politician had made similar remarks.

‘Well, he later apologised, but I mean, can you imagine if someone from the right said that? All hell would break loose,’ Stefanovic said.

‘Women on the left justified it all saying, “Oh well, it’s just Albo”.’
