Kelly Clarkson has lashed out at a Brooklyn store after claiming staff treated her “like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman.”
The 44-year-old singer, who recently surprised fans with a bold new look, took to X on Saturday after visiting Art of Play, a home goods store near Brooklyn Bridge Park.
Clarkson said she drove to the shop because it “looked really rad” and she had several items in mind that she wanted to buy.
However, she claimed that once inside, she was “looked at as if I couldn’t afford it” and told that an employee could find something comparable for her. “Wow, dude. You’re an idiot and just lost a huge sale,” she wrote.
The “Because of You” hitmaker said the experience reminded her of Julia Roberts’ character in the 1990 romantic comedy Pretty Woman.
“But y’all should go check out Art of Play in Brooklyn if you enjoy being treated like Julia Roberts character in Pretty Woman. For sure, check it out,” Clarkson added.

Our News Outlet has contacted Art of Play and a representative for Clarkson for comment, but has not yet received a response.
In Pretty Woman, the film Clarkson referenced, Roberts played Vivian, a woman who enters a clothing store on Rodeo Drive.
Although Vivian had money to spend, the store’s staff judged that she could not afford the merchandise and suggested she shop elsewhere.
Later, Roberts’ character returns to the same store wearing different clothes and carrying several shopping bags.
“Do you remember me? I was in here yesterday. You wouldn’t wait on me. You work on commission right?” she asks the staff.
She then raises her shopping bags and says, “Big mistake. Big. Huge,” before leaving the store.
Clarkson’s post on X came shortly after she unveiled a dramatic new look following her departure from her NBC talk show.
In September, the singer appeared on Late Night With Seth Meyers with shorter hair that fell just above her shoulders.

“No extensions. I chopped my hair off recently!” the singer announced during the late-night talk show appearance.
Clarkson further showed off the bob while performing at Providence College’s annual Late Night Madness in Rhode Island.

Fans supported her new hairstyle, with one commenting, ‘She’s in her “short hair don’t care” era!’
Another added, ‘I think Kelly looks great with her real hair. I don’t think she looks older. I think she looks great.’
Back in February, Clarkson shockingly revealed she was quitting her NBC talk show after seven seasons.
The Stronger hitmaker explained she was stepping back from the show to ‘prioritize’ her two children and sent gratitude to the team she has worked with over the years.
Her ex-husband and the father of her two children Brandon Blackstock passed away last August following a battle with cancer.
She broke her silence on the exit during an appearance on the Today show shortly afterwards and admitted it was not an easy decision.

Should store staff judge customers based on appearance, or does everyone deserve equal respect?
‘That’s what was really hard. The crew’s been incredible. It wasn’t that the show wasn’t doing well.’
The songstress added, ‘That’s what kind of sucked, it was like, everything was going well. That’s what was really hard. It was people’s jobs. We are family there as well.’
However, Clarkson expressed that her priority is her children River, 12, and son Remington, 10.
‘Well, I think everybody probably gets the timing. Our family life, the dynamic changed a bit and it has changed for a minute now.’
The singer also shared, ‘I know everybody thinks, “Oh she quit.” I’m like, “I still have other jobs. I’m still doing stuff.” There’s just too much on the plate. So I’m like, “You know what, it’s time to kind of pull back.”‘
The final episode of her daytime talk show aired on August 31.

Clarkson also recently shared that she is not prioritizing on dating, and is instead putting focus on her two children

‘My kids right now, I think – there’s a lot behind that – but I think that would rock their boat a little bit,’ she explained during an appearance on the Las Culturistas podcast.
‘And honestly, this is not a bulls*** answer: I love my life right now. It just got to where I am not exhausted at every point of it.’
The performer further added that ‘if you’re gonna be in a relationship, you have to be willing to give some of your time up, and I am unwilling.’
