Matthew Stafford's wife Kelly opens up on plastic surgery 'pressure'

Kelly Stafford has opened up about the intense beauty expectations she experiences while living in Los Angeles with her husband, Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford.

The couple relocated to California in 2021, after Matthew was traded from the Detroit Lions to the Los Angeles Rams.

Kelly, who married the NFL star in 2015, said the city’s image-conscious culture has made her feel added pressure to look a certain way.

“As a 37-year-old woman, I do feel pressure to look a particular way here,” Kelly told Us Weekly. “It’s normal for people to do certain things, but I definitely feel that pressure.”

The mother of four also worries about how growing up in Los Angeles could shape her daughters’ views of beauty and self-image. She said she hopes they understand that the local culture is simply different, while still appreciating that their family is “good” as it is.

Kelly added that she wants her children to value qualities such as good manners, respect and consideration for others. While those principles matter everywhere, she believes the pressures surrounding them feel especially heightened in Los Angeles.

Kelly also acknowledged that she has not decided whether the family will remain in California after Matthew retires from the NFL. The couple shares four daughters: 9-year-old twins Sawyer and Chandler, 8-year-old Hunter and 6-year-old Tyler.

Matthew signed a one-year, $55 million contract extension with the Rams in May, keeping him under contract through the 2027 season. Even so, questions about the veteran quarterback’s eventual retirement have already begun to circulate.

“Whether we stay in Los Angeles is something I ask myself every day,” said Kelly, who is originally from Georgia. “Family comes first for us, and I miss my family like crazy.”

At the same time, she recognizes that the girls have established friendships, school routines and sports commitments in California. Matthew enjoys living there as well, leaving Kelly unsure about how the family will eventually balance everyone’s priorities.

Kelly has previously discussed the cosmetic procedures she underwent after pregnancy, explaining that her body changed significantly after having children.

During an episode of her podcast, “The Morning After,” last year, the former cheerleader revealed that she had a “mommy makeover” after a decade of marriage to the NFL quarterback.

She spoke openly about the operations while interviewing her surgeon, Dr. Garth Fisher, on the show.

Kelly said she had her breasts revised, underwent a tummy tuck and had reconstructive work performed on her backside.

She also revealed that she had undergone her first breast enhancement years earlier, although she said she could not recall the exact timing.

Kelly said the procedures ultimately left her feeling “great” and “very confident,” while admitting that she had experienced some uncertainty before going through with them.

‘You want to do it when you still have that urge to feel sexy,’ she said, adding: ‘I’m not saying at 18 years down the road I might not have a resurgence of that. But I also just think you’re older in age and it gets tougher.’

She continued: ‘A lot of people who live in California know what a tummy tuck is, but in my mind when I was told a tummy tuck, I was like, “That’s lipo[suction], right?” I was thinking fat removal and then skin and I remember being like, “Oh man, OK.”‘

Kelly went on to hint that she and Matthew were finished having children as she added: ‘You don’t want to go in and get a tummy tuck and get rid of the skin and get pregnant again … Because that’s kind of a waste.’
