Husband, 45, charged with murder after GP found dead in Sandringham

A man has been charged with murder after his wife was found dead at their home near the Sandringham estate, where she was reportedly hosting a sleepover.

Dr Hannah Cain, a 45-year-old GP, was discovered dead in Dersingham, Norfolk, in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Her husband, Mark Cain, also 45, was arrested and has since been charged with her murder, the Crown Prosecution Service confirmed on Monday evening.

He remains in custody and is due to appear at Norwich Magistrates’ Court for an initial hearing on Wednesday morning.

Michael Devaney, a senior Crown prosecutor, said: ‘The Crown Prosecution Service has authorised the prosecution of Mark Cain, 45, for the murder of Dr Hannah Cain.

‘The charge follows an investigation by Norfolk Police at her home in Dersingham.’

Grimston Medical Centre, where Dr Cain worked, was closed on Monday. The practice said it was responding to ‘extremely difficult circumstances affecting our practice team’.

She was known professionally as Dr Hannah Terry and also worked for the cosmetic treatments company Norfolk Sky Aesthetics.

A spokesperson for the surgery wrote on social media: ‘We are sorry to inform patients that Grimston Medical Centre, including the dispensary, is temporarily closed because of extremely difficult circumstances affecting our practice team.

‘We apologise for the disruption and thank patients for their patience and understanding during this very difficult time for our colleagues.’

Flowers and other tributes were placed near the property as police and forensic investigators began examining the scene.

Residents said the village was usually a quiet and peaceful place, leaving them stunned by the tragedy.

One resident, who said Dr Cain had lived in the area for about a decade, said: ‘She was just a lovely human being with three gorgeous young children.’

A neighbour in his 90s said he had rarely seen the couple, adding: ‘The children were lovely, two boys and a younger girl.

‘They used to kick their football into my garden and I’d throw it back to them, or they would come and ask if they could go in and look for it.’

Another resident, who has lived in Dersingham for 50 years, said the area had experienced very little crime.

‘Dersingham might not have a centre but it’s got a heart,’ he said.

Another resident said: ‘It’s the sort of place where if you forget to lock your car and leave it out all night nothing will happen to it.’

One mourner meanwhile posted on Facebook: ‘Fly high and sleep well Dr Terry. You never deserved this to happen, heaven has gained an angel.

‘You were a lovely doctor who listened to us and helped us. Thinking of you and your family and your children and friends.’
