Mickey Rourke has publicly reflected on his difficult divorce from former Vogue model Carre Otis, offering her an apology nearly three decades after their separation.
On Monday, the renowned actor took to Instagram to share a heartfelt message about his ex-wife. He wrote, “Wrong girl not her fault all my mistake I was a fool fit so many yrs not her fault at all I just made a blind terrible mistake big regret not of it her fault all my blame.”
Rourke, now 73, was married to the 57-year-old model from 1992 until their divorce in 1998.
The couple first crossed paths in 1989 on the set of the sensual film “Wild Orchid,” where Otis played Emily Reed, the love interest of Rourke’s character, the enigmatic millionaire James Wheeler.
Their relationship was marked by significant challenges, including Rourke’s arrest for spousal abuse in 1994.
In a dramatic incident, Otis was accidentally shot in the chest when Rourke’s gun, which he carried for protection, went off inside her purse.

In her 2011 book Beauty, Disrupted: A Memoir, Otis described her difficult marriage.
Otis said she was shot in the chest after Rourke stashed a handgun in her bag without letting her know. The bullet hit just two inches from her heart.
‘We were on a set in Santa Fe, Mickey was working, and there was a horrific accident,’ Otis said. ‘There was a gun, his gun, it was in a bag.’ Otis threw the bag down and the gun went off.
‘I was hit with a .357 bullet,’ she said. ‘It was about two inches from my heart. It exited through my shoulder. I was really unbelievably lucky that it didn’t hit a bone.’
Otis claimed a fight turned physical in 1992, and he hit her again after that. She said she turned to heroin to cope with it all.
Her past is full of ups and downs.

When entering the modeling world as a teenager she became anorexic, which she said led to health issues like holes in her heart.
Otis also said she was raped by her agent in Paris at age 17, something she detailed in her 2011 book Beauty, Disrupted.
She said the man was Gerald Marie, the head of Elite Paris. At the time he was engaged to supermodel Linda Evangelista.
In 2012 the model told the San Francisco Chronicle that she had became an advisory board member of the Model Alliance. That is a nonprofit that is dedicated to improving the labor conditions and rights of models.
She is also on the Ambassador Council of the National Eating Disorders Association.

‘Coming from the history and past that I come from, of sexual violence and rape, you have to turn that around and find a way to empower young women,’ Otis told the Chronicle.
‘I’d turned many corners and was coming from a place not of bull- but of honesty. It was another lifetime. One day, it will be an honest conversation with my kids.’
She also said: ‘It’s a very sketchy industry, with grown-up problems enveloping minors. Any other industry would have child labor laws. How did that slip? People need to take responsibility for the damage done outside the industry – women and girls with eating disorders and dissatisfaction with their body image.’
She has been married to Matthew Sutton since 2005 and they live in Sonoma County with daughters Kaya and Jade.
