Jamie Michael Lane (Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation).

A Florida man is now confined after brutally assaulting his girlfriend with a baseball bat, nearly ending her life while she begged for mercy, as reported by the state’s law enforcement authorities.

Jamie Michael Lane, 51, stands accused of one count of attempted felony murder, according to Miami-Dade County court records.

The underlying incident occurred on Tuesday at a residence in Homestead, a medium-sized city and suburb of Miami.

Following the assault, police arrived at the shared residence of Lane and the victim, as indicated in an arrest report acquired by local independent TV station WPLG.

According to the arrest report, the victim disclosed that she and Lane had been cohabiting for four years, despite having been romantically involved for a total of seven years. On the day of the incident, the couple had engaged in frequent arguments, the woman informed the responding officers.

The woman noted that she eventually ignored Lane’s phone communications, which, according to her, led to his aggravated visit. When she denied him entry after persistent knocking, Lane allegedly forced entry by kicking down the door, wielding a wooden baseball bat.

Then the alleged attack ensued.

The victim said Lane struck her three times – once each on her forehead, back of her head, and left arm, according to the report.

“Stop before you kill me,” the woman said she shouted.

The victim’s pleas apparently stopped the attack, as per the report. She recounted how Lane paused the assault, fell to his knees, prayed, and sought forgiveness before fleeing the scene.

A witness corroborated the woman’s account, police say.

Post-interview, the victim was transported to the nearby Baptist Health Homestead Hospital, where medical personnel diagnosed her with a left frontal hematoma and potential fractures to the skull or face, as stated by the police.

A search warrant was later obtained for the residence, according to law enforcement. Inside, investigators recovered a broken wooden bat believed to be the one used in the attack, according to the report.

Lane turned himself in on Wednesday. He is currently being detained in the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center without bond. Jail records show the crime is classified as domestic violence in nature.

The defendant is being represented by a public defender, court records show.

On Wednesday, a stay-away order was issued in his case – intended to keep him from contacting the victim. Lane is next slated to appear in court for his arraignment on Oct. 14.
