SAN DIEGO —
A pickup driver was killed early Sunday in a crash on a ramp connecting Interstate 805 to state Route 94, and police were looking for the driver of another truck who reportedly fired a gun as officers and firefighters worked at the crash site, authorities said.
The crash was reported about 12:10 a.m. on the northbound I-805 ramp just south of where it splits into eastbound and westbound SR-94. Video of the wreckage from OnScene TV shows a mangled silver Toyota Tacoma.
The driver was trapped and died in the wreckage, authorities said.
While California Highway Patrol officers investigated the crash and San Diego Fire-Rescue Department firefighters used rescue tools to cut through the mangled vehicle parts to recover the body, someone in a white pickup fired a gun on the nearby southbound I-805 ramp to Market Street, authorities said. It was not believed that anyone was struck by the gunfire.
San Diego police were told to be on the lookout for the pickup, which was last seen heading east on Market Street, said police Officer Sarah Foster.
