Four people died Saturday after a helicopter crashed and caught fire in Quebec’s Montérégie region, authorities said.
The aircraft went down shortly after 2:30 p.m. in the Rang des Écossais sector of Sainte-Brigide-d’Iberville after experiencing difficulties, according to Agence QMI.
Firefighters and other emergency responders were dispatched to the crash site.
“According to the initial assessment, the four occupants died,” Sûreté du Québec Sgt. Audrey-Anne Bilodeau told QMI.
The victims had not been publicly identified by late Saturday afternoon.

Authorities had also not released the helicopter’s make, model, registration or operator. The aircraft’s departure point and destination remained unknown.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada had been notified of the crash, QMI reported.
The cause of the crash had not been determined.
