Raskin: Trump Engaging in 'Criminalization of Immigration Law'

On Thursday, Representative Jamie Raskin (D-MD) spoke on MSNBC’s “All In,” expressing that individuals are resisting President Donald Trump’s tendency towards monarchy and authoritative policing.

Raskin elaborated, saying, “Oppression naturally leads to resistance. Recently, we witnessed millions nationwide gathering to declare, ‘We oppose monarchical rule.’ We find ourselves in a period where Trump’s monarchical and dominating police methods are being rejected.”

He further explained, “Washington, D.C., is home to 713,000 American citizens who pay taxes and can be drafted but lack congressional representation. The Democrats managed to pass a bill in the House supporting D.C. statehood, a move the Republicans have consistently opposed. Currently, Trump intends to establish ICE checkpoints throughout D.C., a measure the freedom-seeking residents will not tolerate.”

Raskin also mentioned, “Donald Trump and the Republicans have essentially seized $1 billion of locally generated funds meant for public safety, law enforcement, and education in D.C. This funding should be returned to the people of D.C., enabling them to manage crime effectively. Meanwhile, Trump claims he’s sending National Guard troops to clean up graffiti and beautify Washington, which is utterly ridiculous. He plans to expand these police state measures nationwide, an initiative the majority of Americans will not support.”
