Breaking:Cora Clancy’s teachers tell court about little girl’s concerning behavior one day before murders
Susan Bertolo was also a staff member at Learning Sprouts, the preschool attended by Cora and Dawson.
She was responsible for the school’s “Sunflower” classroom, where Cora spent three mornings each week.
Bertolo said both Lindsay and Patrick Clancy handled preschool drop-offs for Cora, though she remembered seeing Patrick more often because she shared arrival duties with another teacher.
As she spoke about Cora, Bertolo became emotional, describing the young girl as an “amazing” and “wonderful” preschooler who seemed ready for kindergarten.
The preschool teacher fought back tears while remembering the final time she saw Cora.
Cora arrived at Learning Sprouts on the morning of January 23, 2023, for what would be her last day at preschool.
According to Bertolo, Cora needed to use the bathroom more frequently than usual that day, prompting concern that she shared with another teacher.
When Bertolo mentioned it to Clancy at pickup, she said Cora already had a doctor’s appointment scheduled for the following day.
The five-year-old was complaining that her tummy hurt and didn’t want to get up from her nap, her second teacher of the day, Stephanie Williams, told the court.
Williams told Clancy this when she picked her daughter up that afternoon.
Clancy scooped up the little girl, saying to her: ‘Oh baby, come on let’s go get Dawson and we’ll go home.’
When asked if she noticed anything different about Clancy that day – or any day – she said: She was just a very loving mother who cared very much for her children.’
