Capturing the dramatic event on video, the homeowner documented the towering inferno that engulfed his detached garage that fateful Sunday afternoon.
The incident occurred near the intersection of River Oaks Drive and Route 71, straddling the line between Yorkville and Oswego in Kendall County.
According to the homeowner’s statement to ABC7, workers present at the detached garage were the first to notice the fire, prompting him to alert emergency services. The blaze rapidly intensified, raging for several hours.
The fire’s extreme heat was so severe that it also caused damage to parts of the nearby attached garage, melting sections of it despite the distance.
The homeowner said at one point firefighters had limited access to water, and that winds appeared be a major challenge for firefighters. He says he was grateful the winds didn’t shift the flames towards his home.
However, his detached garage, along with everything inside, is now a complete loss. The homeowner estimates hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of damage.
The good news is no one was injured in this fire, including all of his animals.
