Karmelo Anthony has been placed in solitary confinement following his conviction for the murder of Austin Metcalf, jail officials confirmed.
The 19-year-old, who was sentenced to a 35-year prison term on Tuesday, is currently held in a high-security section of the Collin County Jail in Texas. This separation from the general prison population is intended to maintain the safety and security of all inmates, according to a statement provided to The Post on Wednesday.
“Mr. Anthony is in the custody of the Collin County Sheriff’s Office Detention Facility. He is not part of the general inmate population,” a spokesperson elaborated.
The spokesperson did not disclose specific reasons for Anthony’s isolation.
Anthony was found guilty of stabbing 17-year-old Metcalf to death during a track meet in April 2025. Although a transfer to a state prison is anticipated for Anthony to serve his sentence, officials have not specified a date for this move.
A jury in McKinney, Texas, reached a verdict in just three hours, dismissing Anthony’s self-defense claim. Despite Anthony’s assertion, Metcalf was unarmed at the time of the incident, while Anthony was armed with a knife.
