CHICAGO — This year marks a significant milestone for “Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest” as it includes a countdown for the Central Time Zone for the very first time. The spotlight will be on Chicago, bringing the excitement of New Year’s Eve right to the heart of the city.
While viewers across the nation will tune in from their television screens, Chicago residents have the unique opportunity to experience the festivities firsthand. Kristen Reynolds, who took on the role of President and CEO of Choose Chicago in May, shared that Mayor Brandon Johnson was eager to elevate Chicago’s presence on New Year’s Eve.
“We’re determined to make this vision a reality,” Reynolds stated, noting that the celebrations will kick off at 7 p.m.
The event promises to be a spectacular affair, featuring a bespoke audio-visual production on the Merchandise Mart, as part of the Art on the Mart initiative. Entertainment begins at 9 p.m., offering a taste of Chicago’s vibrant cultural scene. The lineup includes DJ Mike Dunn, DJ Mike P, poet and artist J. Ivy, blues singer Shemekia Copeland, and Grammy award-winning artist Chance the Rapper.
“Think of the atmosphere in Times Square on New Year’s Eve—that’s exactly the vibe we’re aiming for here,” Reynolds enthused.
The main stage will be located at the intersection of Wacker and Franklin. Attendees can enter through designated points on Wells and Lake Street. Reynolds emphasized that no advance tickets are required; attendees simply need to show up to join the celebration.
“All you have to do is pack your patience, because it is going to be very tight security getting into the event, understandably. We want it to be a safe event for everyone who’s in attendance.” She recommends that people arrive early.
So, what does it mean that Chicago’s going to be in the national spotlight on New Year’s Eve, “If you think about it, there are three cities that are going to be featured on New Year’s Eve.
It starts with New York City which has established itself as this iconic New Year’s Eve. And then it’s wonderful to be in that same realm. Chicago should be exactly aligned with that.”
