A petition advocating for Florida authorities to grant clemency to Harjinder Singh, an illegal immigrant truck driver accused of causing a fatal accident that claimed three lives, has amassed nearly 2.5 million signatures by Sunday afternoon.

The petition — available on Change.org and directed to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis — urges both DeSantis and the Florida Board of Executive Clemency to reevaluate the case against the 28-year-old. Singh is charged with three counts of vehicular homicide and three counts of manslaughter related to the deadly incident on August 12.

Harjinder Singh, 28, an illegal immigrant, was driving a commercial semi-truck with a trailer on the Florida Turnpike in Fort Pierce when he reportedly tried a U-turn in an unauthorized area. The trailer jackknifed, colliding with a minivan and killing all three passengers, according to officials.

An illegal immigrant has been arrested after allegedly making an unauthorized U-turn in Florida last week that resulted in a crash that left three people dead, officials say.

The petition is signed by “Collective Punjabi youth.”

Authorities reported that Singh entered the U.S. unlawfully in 2018 through the southern border and later acquired a commercial driver’s license in California. He sought to obtain work authorization, which was declined by the first Trump administration on September 14, 2020, as per Tricia McLaughlin, Homeland Security assistant secretary for public affairs.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced this week that the U.S. is ceasing the issuance of work visas for foreign commercial truck drivers, a decision applauded by conservatives following the deadly crash.

Governor Ron DeSantis did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.
