Federal judge rejects Minnesota request to block ICE-led Operation Metro Surge

A federal judge has rejected Minnesota’s bid to immediately stop Operation Metro Surge, a campaign spearheaded by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

In a decision handed down on Saturday, the judge ruled that the state and two cities did not satisfy the stringent legal criteria needed to halt a federal law enforcement initiative at this point in the proceedings.

Anti-ICE protesters and ICE agent in Minneapolis

In the wake of Renee Good’s death, fatally shot by an ICE officer last week, demonstrators gathered at the Minnesota State Capitol on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, in St. Paul, Minnesota. Meanwhile, an ICE agent was observed outside a residential property. Additionally, a local California Republican Party office received an extensive letter advocating violence against ICE agents.
