LOS ANGELES — Caleb Groen, a Thousand Oaks, California, native, has become the newest “Jeopardy!” super champion, building a 10-game winning streak and collecting more than $300,000 along the way. He is set to return Thursday night in pursuit of win No. 11.
Groen, who studies policy and law, is currently interning in New York before he heads back to Harvard Law School in the fall.
As for how a six-figure “Jeopardy!” payday might change his day-to-day life, Groen said his first splurge could be surprisingly practical.
“I have a bike in Cambridge and it’s been broken for a while,” he said. “So definitely, I think, I put some money towards a new bike. But the remainder? I mean, it’s kind of enough that I’m thinking about maybe a down payment for a condo or a house or something like that. I think it would definitely be life-changing. I definitely want to up my charitable giving a little bit, this year for sure. But, overall, it’s just been something very unexpected and a huge blessing.”
Groen’s dominance on the quiz show did not come out of nowhere. Long before he auditioned for the “Jeopardy!” college tournament in 2019, he had already developed the kind of curiosity and recall that can thrive behind the buzzer.
