US judge temporarily blocks Trump's $1.8 billion 'weaponization' fund

WASHINGTON — On Friday, a U.S. judge intervened to halt the Trump administration’s plans to establish a substantial compensation fund valued at nearly $1.8 billion. This fund was intended to address grievances stemming from what former President Trump has termed the “weaponization” of government entities.

U.S. District Judge Leonie Brinkema, presiding over the Eastern District of Virginia, issued an order that temporarily prevents the administration from progressing with the establishment or operation of the fund. This decision will stand while additional legal arguments are presented and considered in the court.

The creation of the “Anti-Weaponization Fund” was unveiled by the Justice Department last week. It emerged from a settlement agreement related to Trump’s legal battle with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) concerning the unauthorized disclosure of his tax records.
