Kanye West ordered to pay up to former handyman in Malibu mansion jury trial

Kanye West has been ordered to compensate a former handyman whom he dismissed, following extensive renovation work at his $57 million Malibu estate.

A jury in Los Angeles granted Tony Saxon $140,000 for medical bills and lost income on Wednesday, as reported by Courthouse News. Initially, Saxon had sought $1.7 million from the music mogul.

The trial spanned several days, focusing on Saxon’s challenging renovation experience in 2021 at the lavish beachfront property. Saxon claimed he faced unpaid wages, hazardous working conditions, and wrongful dismissal after being hired to oversee, secure, and reside in the home during its transformation.

The renovation project led by West significantly altered the mansion, stripping away nearly all of its original elements, including the electrical and plumbing systems.

Throughout the trial, unusual anecdotes about West emerged, particularly regarding his evolving visions for the once-celebrated architectural property. His ideas transitioned from a “bomb shelter” to a “monastery,” then a “recording studio,” and ultimately a “playground,” according to testimony.

Saxon recounted late-night trips to Home Depot with West for tools, only to be sidetracked when West was captivated by a flower arrangement, resulting in them leaving without the equipment they needed.

And in one case of mistaken identity, a worker who called West’s then wife Kim Kardashian “Bianca” in error was afraid he’d be fired.

Testimony revealed West allegedly approached him infuriated, “She’s the most famous woman in the world and you call her by another woman’s name?”

The worker ended up keeping his job.

West and his now-wife Bianca Censori took the stand last week. Kanye was sullen in the witness box, at one point he appeared to fall asleep. He often answered he didn’t remember when asked about his actions regarding the beachfront property.

Censori dressed conservatively and was almost unrecognizable on the day she faced jurors. The judge warned everyone to wear appropriate court attire before the trial started.

During jury selection some of the jurors had been disgusted by Censori’s past fashion choices, pointing to her infamous nearly naked appearance on the Grammy red carpet in 2025.

“I saw it on Facebook,” a juror with a family said. “I don’t know if his wife? I didn’t like the way she presented himself. I don’t want to look at it. It’s disgusting!” she exclaimed
