Lindsay Clancy fan behind $1.2M GoFundMe reveals reason she’s raising money

The woman who launched a fundraiser that has raised $1.2 million for Lindsay Clancy’s parents is Brandee Mulligan, a 42-year-old separated Wisconsin mother of three and TikTok creator. Her efforts could ultimately provide financial support to the accused killer’s defense.

Mulligan, who has no personal connection to 36-year-old Clancy, her estranged husband Patrick, or her parents, Michael and Paula Musgrove, created the GoFundMe campaign last month without first consulting the family.

“They had no idea, and they were just extremely grateful and overwhelmed by all the support,” Mulligan told The Post.

She said her decision to launch “The Musgrove Family Fund” was driven by her instincts as a mother and her sympathy for Clancy. “As a mom, your heart just goes out to Lindsay,” Mulligan said.

“I don’t want to focus too much on the Lindsay aspect of it. But I mean, it’s a huge part of it,” she added, before describing the sacrifices made by Clancy’s parents.

“Her parents have uprooted their whole life for three and a half years. They’ve given everything to this,” Mulligan said.

Mulligan has since spoken with Clancy’s father and designated him as the fund’s sole beneficiary, she told The Post.

Massachusetts, however, has no law preventing people accused of crimes from receiving donations that could be used to challenge the charges against them.

The state is among 23 without a so-called Son of Sam law. Such laws emerged in New York after filmmakers sought to pay notorious serial killer David Berkowitz for the rights to his life story. As a result, Clancy’s father could potentially give the money to his daughter or use it to cover her legal defense.

Clancy’s attorney, Kevin Reddington, previously said that “every nickel” spent on her defense had come from the Musgroves, who were “pretty much depleting everything they have” to pay the legal costs.

The campaign is the only GoFundMe fundraiser publicly confirmed by the platform as being affiliated with the family.

Mulligan also frequently uses social media to express her support for Clancy.

“This is truly a jury of her peers,” she gushed on TikTok after a mistrial was declared Sept. 4, before going on to lash out against the lone holdout juror. “And then one total idiot … one f–king man.”

Here’s the latest on Lindsay Clancy’s murder trial:

But several posts she shared bashed — and appeared to cast suspicion on — Patrick Clancy’s involvement in the murder of his three children.

In one TikTok she shared, a former prosecutor questioned why Patrick Clancy appeared to be wearing different clothing in surveillance footage from two locations during his alibi and why investigators apparently did not obtain his phone records to corroborate his movements.

Patrick Clancy’s attorney slammed the “escalating campaign of misinformation” being waged by influencers earlier this week — threatening “every appropriate measure will be pursued to hold them accountable.”

Reached by phone, Mulligan didn’t walk back her criticism of the ex-husband, instead telling The Post: “I don’t have any comment on that.”

She said the fund — which has collected donations from more than 1,000 people so far, mostly women — is to cover travel expenses for Michael, 70, and Paula Musgrove, 73, from their home near New Haven, Conn., to Plymouth, Mass., where their daughter stood trial.

When the mistrial was declared, Mulligan raised the goal from the initial $2 million to $3 million.

“They’ve been in hotels, they’ve depleted their savings, and they’re the ones that footed the bill for her legal things,” she said of Clancy’s parents. “They’ve been the ones supporting Lindsay.”

GoFundMe doesn’t allow campaigns to pay for criminal defenses against charges for violent crimes, but the site has ignored repeated questions from The Post about what, if any, safeguards it has in place to ensure the money isn’t used to pay for Clancy’s legal defense.

“Everybody’s very clear on what it can and can’t be used for. And the families, they know that,” claimed Mulligan.

“Being a mom is hard, and it’s resonated with a lot of people all over the world. So many women. It’s incredible,” she said of the fundraiser.

“They tell moms to reach out and get help and then when you don’t get that, then what? And I hope that this case helps change that.”

Mulligan herself has face criticism online, and regularly shares comments from her haters, including one where someone said she was “psychotic” if she supported Clancy killing her children.

“You’re setting women back decades,” she said.

Clancy’s parents, Michael and Paula, have not returned The Post’s calls.
