Lindsay Clancy's lawyer labeled 'feminist icon' by her fawning fans: 'Voice of so many moms'

Lindsay Clancy’s Lawyer Praised as ‘Feminist Icon’ by Supporters: ‘Voice of So Many Moms’

Kevin Reddington, the attorney for Lindsay Clancy, said he finds it “unusual” that his defense of the Massachusetts mother has led some supporters to cast him as a feminist figure for drawing attention to postpartum mental health issues.

“It’s kind of unusual,” Reddington said of the unexpected praise surrounding his role in the case.

During the trial, Reddington argued that Clancy, 36, should not be held criminally responsible because she was suffering from severe postpartum psychosis and had heard a voice instructing her to strangle her three children.

He also focused much of his defense on Clancy’s medical treatment in the four months before the killings, seeking to show that healthcare providers failed her as she struggled with debilitating insomnia, anxiety, depression and thoughts of harming herself and her children.

“You’re the voice of so many moms!” supporter Laurel Witwen told Reddington as she embraced him outside the courthouse.

Witwen and her daughter, Hannah Estrada, traveled from Houston, Texas, to support Clancy, saying their own experience with postpartum issues compelled them to attend.

“We came from Houston to watch you. I wish someone would have held my daughter’s hand,” the 65-year-old mother said through tears.

“We want to take you out for a steak dinner, Mr, Reddington! We love you so much,” Estrada, 37, said. “I had my health weaponized against me in family court.”

“You’re the voice of so many moms!” her mom added.
