MFTK holds 2nd annual Spartan Showcase in Jacksonville

High school athletes from across the southern United States gathered at the Spartan Showcase, aiming to capture the attention of top scouts and elevate their sporting careers.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Mentorship For The Kids Foundation (MFTK) hosted the highly anticipated Spartan Showcase for the second consecutive year, drawing young talent eager to shine on a larger stage.

Approximately 200 promising prep athletes made their way to KIPP, traveling from states as far north as North Carolina and as far south as Louisiana. The event provided them an invaluable opportunity to display their skills before representatives from prestigious organizations such as On3 and Rivals.

“Everyone is here; it’s competitive yet relaxed,” remarked Kolby London King, who journeyed from Alabama. “It’s a fantastic chance to gain exposure while competing against the best.”

Among the standout participants was Brysen Wright, who is currently the top-ranked prospect for the class of 2028, adding even more prestige to the event.

Former NFL player James Coleman initiated the showcase with the vision of offering Jacksonville’s young athletes a robust platform from which to propel their careers.

“My favorite rapper is Jay-Z, ‘everybody can tell you how to do it, but they never did it’. Well, I’ve done it and I’m trying to come back and show other people how to do it.” Coleman said. “I just want to raise the floor of where we are at in Jacksonville so that more kids get the opportunity.”

Coleman will select a 7-on-7 team from the participating players to compete and represent the city both nationally and potentially internationally.
