Former A-10 pilot recounts being hit over Baghdad, credits training for survival
President Donald Trump and Gen. Dan Caine recounted the rescue of a U.S. airman from Iran, pointing to the bravery, discipline and specialized training required in such high-risk operations. Former A-10 pilot Kim “KC” Campbell, drawing on her own survival experience, also stressed the critical importance of combat search-and-rescue teams operating in hostile territory. The account underscored how rigorous SERE training helps airmen evade capture, survive and increase their chances of returning home safely.

Navy officials said the Makin Island Amphibious Ready Group began searching at about 1:21 a.m. Thursday after the Marine was reported missing during integrated training with the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit.
The service said the Marine’s name will not be released until 24 hours after the notification of next of kin.
