Former New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu said Friday on CNN’s “The Source” that President Donald Trump has “lost focus in a big way” on the priorities most important to Americans.
Landrieu argued that the controversy over a plane was beside the point, calling it another distraction. He said Trump campaigned on promises to end the war in Ukraine on his first day in office, avoid foreign conflicts and lower everyday costs for Americans. Instead, Landrieu said, Trump has been consumed by chaotic moments and issues such as bombs, ballrooms, planes and UFC fights, while costs have continued to rise and voters have grown increasingly frustrated.
He said many Americans want the president to concentrate on their financial struggles. “Get focused on my pocketbook because I’m hurting out here,” Landrieu said, adding that the situation does not reflect well on Trump and suggests he has drifted from what voters are asking for.
Landrieu added that, in his view, the public is sending a clear message to anyone willing to hear it: they want attention on affordability and household finances. He said voters are angry as the administration focuses on other matters, including ballrooms, UFC events, military action and efforts to fix a pool. Landrieu said it does not appear the president is listening closely, even though the issue has become more urgent to him in recent weeks.
