Two people were killed and two others were critically wounded Thursday morning in a shooting inside a Gaston County, North Carolina, home after officers were called to reports of gunfire, authorities said.
According to the Gaston County Police Department, officers arrived at the residence shortly before 8:45 a.m. and discovered four people inside suffering from gunshot wounds.
Police said two victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while the other two were rushed to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Investigators have identified a person of interest in connection with the Gaston County shooting, though officials have not released further details.
Police said they believe the suspect and the victims knew one another, and investigators do not consider the shooting to be a random act.

Authorities said the investigation remains active as detectives work to determine what led to the deadly incident.
There is no known ongoing threat to the Gaston County community, police said.
