In a dramatic series of events on Friday, a home invasion in the northern suburbs of Chicago spiraled into a police chase, culminating in a SWAT team intervention on the city’s South Side. Authorities reported that the incident has left a family shaken in their own residence.
The unsettling episode began around 2 p.m. in the 1900 block of Butternut Lane in Northbrook. Responding to reports of a home invasion, Northbrook police discovered that suspects had already fled the scene before officers could arrive.
According to a neighbor who spoke with ABC7, one of the residents was assaulted with a pistol by one of the intruders, who were part of a group that forcibly entered the home. The brazen nature of the crime has instilled fear within the neighborhood.

Throughout the day, detectives were seen entering and exiting the home as the investigation unfolded. Although police have not confirmed if anyone was injured, they emphasized that there is no ongoing threat to public safety while the investigation continues.
Suspects fled the scene before officers arrived, Northbrook police said.
Detectives could be seen going in and out of the home on Butternut Lane in Northbrook on Friday. Police didn’t say if anyone was hurt, only saying the investigation is ongoing and that there is no immediate threat to the public.
Illinois State Police said they pursued a vehicle wanted in connection to a Northbrook home invasion.
The police chase ended in the 12600 block of South Wallace Street in Chicago, where suspects fled into a residence, ISP said.
Chicago police confirmed there was a SWAT response at the location in West Pullman. ABC7 cameras captured Northbrook officers at the scene.
Chopper 7 from above and ABC7 cameras on the ground captured at least four people taken into custody by police Friday night. ABC7 has blurred their faces while charges are pending.
Northbrook police are urging witnesses of the home invasion to come forward with any information, including possible security video.
No further information about the investigation was immediately available.
