As the murder trial of Karmelo Anthony enters its third day of testimony on Saturday, a notable attorney who played a key role in the O.J. Simpson trial highlights concerning similarities between public reactions to both cases, especially regarding racial issues.
Royal Oakes, a media lawyer based in California who advocated for media access during the Simpson trial, shared with News Agency that he observes echoes of the cultural and racial tensions that permeated O.J.’s trial in the 1990s now reemerging in Anthony’s ongoing case in Texas.
“We’re likely to witness a similar dynamic unfold in this trial as we did with O.J. Simpson’s case,” Oakes remarked. “There’s a significant cultural and racial divide at play.”
Karmelo Anthony faces allegations of fatally stabbing Austin Metcalf during an altercation at a track meet in Texas. He has entered a plea of not guilty, with his defense poised to argue that he acted in self-defense.
