HOUSTON, Texas — Music education can open doors for students, but private lessons often come with a price tag that puts them out of reach. At Houston’s Project Row Houses, one music school is working to change that by making instruction more affordable and accessible for the community.
Piano Vibes is among the latest businesses selected for Project Row Houses’ Business Residency Program. The music education studio provides low-cost lessons, and in some cases, instruction at no charge. Each Wednesday, Piano Vibes hosts free community piano classes at the historic ElDorado Ballroom, located across the street from Project Row Houses in Houston’s Third Ward.
“They really, really engage in what were trying to teach, and we offer that at a premium of F-R-E-E,” said Achille Javois, owner and founder of Piano Vibes.
The studio welcomes learners of every age, from children to adults, with lessons available in piano, voice and drums.
“Project Row Houses is a call and response organization,” said Michael Higgins of Project Row Houses. “The call from the community is that we want opportunities to be able to learn music. So our response was to go out and provide these music lessons for them, and now we have Piano Vibes.”
ABC13’s Localish team stopped by Piano Vibes at Project Row Houses in the video above to highlight how students are growing and gaining confidence through the free community music lessons.
