A Brooklyn grandmother who vanished during a trip to Las Vegas has been found dead in a drainage area near an airport, with police saying surveillance video captured what appear to be her final moments.
Alisa Goods, 63, was recorded on security footage on Aug. 8 “falling down an embankment, getting back up and then collapsing,” the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department told KTNV. Investigators said the video showed “no further movement” after she went down.
Authorities located the mother of five’s body nearly two weeks later, around 1:45 a.m. on Aug. 20. Police told the station that her remains could not be seen from the roadway.
Goods, a Brooklyn resident, had traveled to Sin City to visit Roger John, a friend of two decades. She had left his home near the Las Vegas Strip to shop at a CVS before she disappeared.
John was not treated as a suspect in the missing-person case and took part in the search efforts throughout the nearly 12 days Goods remained unaccounted for.
Relatives also said Goods had recently had multiple surgeries on her legs, a detail they shared as the search unfolded.
After her body was discovered Thursday, family members grieved the loss of the woman they described as the heart of their family.
“Our hearts are broken. We were notified that my aunt was found — unfortunately, not the way we wanted her to be,” her niece, Alana Calloway, said in a statement.
“This is an unimaginable time. Words cannot describe the pain our family is experiencing right now.
“We just want to thank the public for the outpouring of love, support, and prayers. We also want to thank the media for helping bring attention to this situation. This hurts so deeply. We are still trying to learn the details surrounding her death. We ask for continued prayers and privacy as we grieve,” the statement concluded.
Authorities have not yet announced Goods’ cause of death.
