Chicago Pokemon GO fest 2026 draws thousands to Grant Park and other city attractions

On Saturday, Grant Park in Chicago transformed into a vibrant digital playground, thanks to an anime sensation that captivated the city.

“I’ve been playing Pokémon games ever since I was a kid,” shared Celia Knox, who traveled from Kalamazoo, Michigan. “It’s a great way to stay active and spend time outside.”

The weather cooperated beautifully, with temperatures soaring close to 80 degrees, making it a perfect day to be outdoors.

“There’s nothing like enjoying a good time with others, just hanging out and having fun. You’ve got to catch them all,” said John Kamichitis, visiting from Sterling Heights, Michigan.

This weekend, thousands of enthusiasts gathered at the Pokémon GO Fest in Chicago, all eager to “catch them all” in celebration of the app’s 10-year anniversary.

Cory Lara, a resident of Humboldt Park, remarked, “It’s a fantastic way for people to enjoy fresh air and the outdoors. Since Chicago is the only U.S. city hosting the event this season, it’s an opportunity you simply can’t miss.”

The festival, which goes through Sunday, returned to the city for the first time since 2019.

“It was where the first three GO fests in the U.S. were based. And, we just thought for the tenth anniversary, why not return home?” said Pokémon GO Global Live Events Manager Divya Erram.

And, in the midst of the gameplay, there is community.

“And you just click on Pokémon here, and you just catch them,” Knox said. “Seeing friends that you haven’t seen in years, and developers you haven’t seen in years, and enjoying Chicago.”
