Pope Leo XIV made his inaugural post on social media this Tuesday, delivering a message of peace as he aims to keep an active presence on various platforms via the official papal accounts.

The pontiff’s decision “to maintain an active social media presence through the official papal accounts on X and Instagram” was confirmed by the Dicastery for Communication in a press release.

In his first post since taking over the Vatican’s official Instagram and X accounts, he repeated the first words he said to the world as pope.

Prior to his papacy, the former Cardinal Robert Prevost sporadically posted on an X account he started in 2011. This account had been dormant since July 2023 until he re-engaged earlier this year to critique the Trump administration’s immigration policies and remarks by Vice President JD Vance, who was also at odds with Francis in his last months regarding the administration’s immigration plans, which included a proposal for mass deportations.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
