A powerful earthquake registering a preliminary magnitude of 7.4 struck off the northeastern coast of Japan on Monday afternoon, as reported by the Japan Meteorological Agency.
The agency issued a tsunami warning, predicting waves of up to 9.84 feet to potentially impact the Iwate, Aomori, and Hokkaido prefectures.

The earthquake’s epicenter was located in the Pacific Ocean at a depth of 10 kilometers, according to the JMA.
This quake registered an ‘upper 5’ on Japan’s seismic intensity scale, indicating a force strong enough to make it difficult for people to remain standing.

Such tremors often result in the collapse of unreinforced concrete-block walls.
