Repeat offender busted again less than 24 hours after release in brazen jewelry store theft case: police

A California man accused in a jewelry theft case was back in custody less than a day after being released from jail, with authorities saying he allegedly committed the same kind of crime while already on pretrial probation.

Andre Wiley, 19, was arrested last week after Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office detectives said he joined two other men in an alleged jewelry store theft just hours after he walked out of the Placer County Jail on his own recognizance. He had been held there on burglary, conspiracy and grand theft charges, officials said.

According to investigators, Wiley entered a local jewelry store with Andrew Ivy and Kameryus Mayhand, both 18.

Authorities allege Ivy and Mayhand kept employees occupied by looking at merchandise, while Wiley sat at a consultation desk and stole two pieces of jewelry. The three then ran from the store, officials said.

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office also released surveillance video that appears to capture the alleged theft from start to finish, showing the trio entering the store, moving casually through the business and then abruptly sprinting out moments later.

Not long after, the Rancho Cordova Police Department’s Crime Suppression Unit found the suspects’ vehicle, which led to their arrests and the recovery of the stolen jewelry, authorities said.

Deputies then discovered Wiley had been released from the Placer County Jail less than 24 hours earlier and was already on pretrial probation for burglary, conspiracy and grand theft charges — the same offenses he is now accused of committing again, the sheriff’s office said.

Wiley, Ivy and Mayhand were all booked into the Sacramento County Main Jail on suspicion of burglary, conspiracy and grand theft.

The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office released the suspects’ booking photos because detectives believe they may be connected to additional thefts.
