Mexican authorities have found a decomposing body bearing “signs of violence” near Tijuana’s Caliente Stadium, where Iran’s national soccer team has been training during the World Cup, according to a report by the New York Post.
Investigators were called to the area after complaints of a foul odor coming from a gray Toyota SUV with California license plates parked in a grocery store lot close to the stadium, the report said.
After examining the vehicle, officials discovered a person wrapped in a black bag inside the trunk, according to a spokesperson for the Tijuana prosecutor’s office quoted by the Post. The spokesperson said the body showed visible signs of violence.
The report also said the SUV had rear-end damage and carried a license plate frame from a Tijuana auto dealership.
Photos from the scene showed forensic personnel in white protective suits gathering evidence around the vehicle.
