Serena Williams is set to return to Wimbledon in singles after receiving a wild card entry, the All England Club said Sunday.
The announcement follows the 44-year-old Williams’ recent comeback in doubles, marking her first professional tennis action in nearly four years.
It also means Williams is now scheduled to compete in both singles and doubles at Wimbledon, having already accepted a wild card for the doubles competition with older sister Venus.
Williams has not played a singles match since falling to Ajla Tomljanovic in the third round of the 2022 U.S. Open. At that point, she avoided calling it a retirement, saying instead that she was “evolving” away from tennis.

Over her career, Serena has captured 23 Grand Slam singles championships, seven of them at Wimbledon. She has also claimed 14 Grand Slam doubles titles, all alongside Venus, including six at the All England Club.
Wimbledon is scheduled to begin June 29.
Last week, Serena won a doubles match at Queen’s Club with partner Victoria Mboko, but the duo later withdrew after Mboko suffered a knee injury during singles play.
In another doubles match at the Berlin Open on Tuesday, Serena and partner Karolina Muchova were beaten by Giuliana Olmos and Erin Routliffe.
