Sen. Susan Collins demanded an apology from Troy Jackson during Thursday’s Maine Senate debate after the Democratic challenger accused her of financially benefiting from the war in Iran.
Jackson said the Republican incumbent was failing to use “her leverage to stop” the conflict in the Middle East because, he alleged, “Collins and her husband are making money off this war.”
“And so are a whole bunch of other people,” added Jackson, a former president of the Maine Senate. He argued that financial interests were among the reasons the conflict continues.
The accusation drew an immediate and angry response from Collins.
