A planeload of Australians, who had been stranded in Dubai since the start of the most recent conflict in the Middle East on Saturday, have returned home.
Emirates flight EK414 safely made it out of the warzone about 9.30am today (AEDT) and landed in Sydney just before 10.30pm.

Sheree, a mother from New South Wales, found herself anxiously waiting at the arrivals gate, hoping to see her son. He was supposed to be on his way to Rome but found himself unexpectedly stranded in Dubai.

According to estimates from the federal government, approximately 20,000 Australians are currently in the UAE, with an additional 115,000 scattered throughout the broader Middle East region.

In response to the situation, Qantas, which frequently collaborates with Emirates, has announced a special A380 flight from Sydney to London via Singapore this weekend. This service aims to assist nearly 500 passengers who have been left stranded and are in desperate need of reaching Europe and the UK, as reported by The Age.

Additionally, Qantas revealed a change in its flight route due to the closure of airspaces in the Middle East. The direct Perth to London flight will now include a stop in Singapore for refuelling.

Qantas assured, “We are doing everything possible to assist our customers who need to alter their travel plans due to these circumstances.”

“We are in direct communication with these passengers to keep them informed,” the airline added.

“We also stand ready to support Australians in the region and remain in close contact with the Australian government.”
