Police reported that an armed individual entered the store, stealing property before making his exit.
As the suspect left, he encountered two men, aged 63 and 25, resulting in a confrontation. The suspect then shot both men multiple times before fleeing south on Springfield Avenue in a white SUV, authorities stated.
Both victims were rushed to Mt. Sinai Hospital in critical condition, where they later succumbed to their injuries. The identities of the deceased have not been disclosed yet.
Nearby, a business provided ABC7 with exclusive surveillance footage of the event. The video shows a man wearing a Blackhawks hoodie and a mask approaching the jewelry store at approximately 5:45 p.m., just moments before the robbery and subsequent shooting took place.
Within about 30 seconds, the suspect runs outside with some merchandise from the store as two men chase after him. The altercation continued in the middle of the street near oncoming traffic, and then right near the corner of Springfield. The offender could be seen pulling out his gun and shooting both victims.
CPD was on scene for hours, taking in evidence, and there are a lot of surveillance cameras in this area.
Police say no one else was hurt by those gunshots that were fired off in the middle of the street.
The jewelry store is now closed as it appears those two victims of this shooting were employees of their shop.
No arrests have been made as Chicago police continue to investigate.
