One killed, two injured in overnight Jacksonville shootings

Early Sunday, individuals reported being shot at while driving along Cesery Boulevard, resulting in an injury. Just the previous night, a fatal shooting took place on Blanding Boulevard.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Over the weekend, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office swiftly responded to a pair of shooting incidents occurring within a span of less than 10 hours, leading to one fatality and injuries to two others.

At approximately 8:40 p.m. on Saturday, officers were dispatched to a shooting incident in the 7900 block of Blanding Boulevard, in the vicinity of Collins Road in the Duclay neighborhood.

Upon arrival, authorities discovered two individuals with gunshot injuries. Both received immediate medical attention from first responders. Unfortunately, one person succumbed to their injuries, while the other was hospitalized and is expected to recover. The identity of the deceased has not been disclosed.

The police have detained several individuals for questioning as the investigation continues to unfold.

Then, on Sunday morning, just after 5 a.m., another shooting incident was reported in the 600 block of Cesery Boulevard, close to the intersection with University Boulevard. A man in his early 20s was found with a gunshot wound to his calf, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

The victim is believed to have first gotten into a confrontation on Mill Creek Road before leaving the area with three other people in his car. While driving on Cesery Boulevard, JSO says the car was hit by gunfire coming from two other vehicles.

“The victim and witnesses were not able to provide a good description for the suspect vehicles and unable to provide any suspect information,” JSO Sgt. Johnson wrote in a briefing on the incident.

Anyone with information that could help in the investigation of either incident is encouraged to contact JSO directly at 904-630-0500 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
