In an unsettling turn of events early Sunday morning, two students from Illinois State University found themselves among the six individuals injured in a shooting that occurred off-campus in Normal, Illinois, according to police reports.
The incident took place in the 700 block of Franklin Avenue, where law enforcement officers responded to calls about gunfire at approximately 2:40 a.m. Upon arrival, they discovered six victims suffering from gunshot wounds. The injured included two male juveniles, two adult men, and two women, all of whom were promptly taken to nearby hospitals. Fortunately, their injuries are reported to be non-life-threatening.

Authorities, including the Normal Police Department and the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Services, are actively involved in gathering and processing evidence from the scene. However, despite their efforts, no arrests have been made as of now.
Police officials have indicated that they believe this to be an isolated incident, yet the circumstances leading up to the shooting remain unclear at this time. The investigation is ongoing as officials seek to piece together the events of that night.

The Illinois State University Police Department shared the following statement:
“We want to keep our campus community informed about an off-campus shooting that occurred early in the morning on March 22 in the Town of Normal. Illinois State University Police responded to assist Normal Police, and officers at the scene quickly determined this to be an isolated incident.
“Two of the individuals injured are Illinois State University students. Law enforcement is now focused on the ongoing investigation and supporting the victims.
“Illinois State University Police will continue to support the investigation and share updates from our partners as they become available.”
