An associate professor from the University of Chicago, known for her far-left views, was taken into custody on Friday, facing charges related to violent actions during riots at an ICE facility near the city.
Eman Abdelhadi, an Associate Professor from the Department of Comparative Human Development at the University of Chicago, was apprehended on October 3. She faces two charges of aggravated battery on a government employee, a Class 3 felony, along with two charges of resisting or obstructing the law, a Class A misdemeanor, as confirmed by the Cook County Sheriff’s Office to Fox News Digital.
Abdelhadi was released from custody after her initial appearance on Saturday.

The professor spoke on a panel called “Revolutionary Accompaniment: Holding Each Other When Things Fall Apart.”
Abdelhadi, as mentioned in a Truthout interview, is an organizer for Faculty and Staff for Justice in Palestine at the University, describing the conflict in Gaza as “genocide.”
During the event Socialism 2025, she explained, “We in the Palestine solidarity movement are realizing the lack of power… the real question is, ‘Where can we actually build power?’”
Much of her X feed consists of resharing posts that are critical of Israel, but she shares some posts of her own.
Federal officers dispersed protesters at an immigrant processing center in Broadview, Illinois, using tear gas and pepper balls on September 27, 2025. The protest was against increased ICE detainments in Chicago, pushed by the Trump administration under Operation Midway Blitz.
Abdelhadi also questioned, “Do you see that the fight for Palestine is a global fight? A fight for a world where everyone matters—where ICE or the IDF can’t make people disappear, and where people’s voices are valued over profit and empire?”
Abdelhadi did not return a request for comment.
