The US moved a large naval force near Iran on Friday, including two aircraft carriers, just two days after President Trump floated the possibility of restoring a blockade on Iranian ports.
“Today, more than 20 US Navy warships are patrolling waters across the Middle East as CENTCOM forces continue promoting regional security and stability,” US Central Command wrote Friday morning on X.
Not long afterward, maritime tracking data showed the USS Abraham Lincoln and USS George H.W. Bush moving into the Gulf of Oman — positioning that military planning experts say would be a key step if Washington sought to revive the blockade that badly damaged Iran’s economy.
When asked about the development, CENTCOM said it would not comment on “operational updates.”
