Dramatic video captured the moment two drivers — one of them allegedly drunk — crashed into a Brooklyn building during what police and sources described as a suspected road-rage confrontation that also injured an uninvolved pedestrian.
The clip shows a man in a blue tracksuit walking along Fulton Street in Bedford-Stuyvesant at about 11:15 p.m. Tuesday when a black Cadillac and a BMW suddenly race into the frame after allegedly running a red light, police said.
The 20-year-old pedestrian narrowly avoided being struck as the cars barreled toward him, with the BMW ultimately plowing into the building and wrecking an under-construction yoga studio that had been set to open within weeks.
The bystander was hurt, along with Cadillac driver Anthony Hayes, 56, and BMW driver Robert Walker, 43, both of whom were taken into custody. All three were transported to Kings County Hospital and listed in stable condition.
Hayes, of Binghampton, N.Y., faces charges including vehicular assault, driving under the influence, resisting arrest, reckless endangerment, aggravated driving while intoxicated and reckless driving, police said.
Walker, of Stroudsbourg, Pa., was charged with vehicular assault, criminal mischief and running a red light.
The impact left extensive damage at what was supposed to become the second location of Noir Yoga, forcing owner Mason Mason to delay the studio’s planned Aug. 1 grand opening, he told News12.
“It’s graphic,” Mason said. “It’s just jarring and an immense amount of damage. I’m like, how could something like this happen?”
The National Grid was called to the scene to help shut off the gas as a precaution and the Department of Buildings was notified, according to the FDNY.
