In a tragic incident late Monday night, a pedestrian lost his life in a hit-and-run accident in East Los Angeles. The driver involved not only fled the scene in the vehicle but then abandoned it and escaped on foot.
The collision, captured on video, occurred on Olympic Boulevard near Arizona Avenue. California Highway Patrol officers responded to the scene around 11 p.m., discovering the lifeless body of a man on the road. Nearby, a damaged white sedan believed to be involved in the accident was found deserted.
Witnesses described a chaotic aftermath, noting that the driver initially stopped after the crash. However, rather than offering assistance, the driver allegedly fled, disappearing into the night.
Video footage shows other vehicles narrowly avoiding the pedestrian before the fatal impact occurred.
“I saw the bumper flying off, and the white car pulled over,” Lin Hirayma, a witness, recounted to CBS News. “The driver got out and ran across the street.”
The victim, whose name has yet to be released, was pronounced dead on the scene by personnel from the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
Photos from the scene showed the mangled remains of the white vehicle’s front end, a grim testament to the force of the collision.
The CHP is now hunting for the driver who fled the vehicle.
