Every year, golf enthusiasts eagerly anticipate “Golf’s Longest Day,” the thrilling Monday when countless players compete at final qualifying rounds for a chance to secure their spot in the U.S. Open.
U.S. Open qualifying is a unique event that brings together a diverse mix of current top professionals, renowned veterans, promising amateur talents, and everyday golfers, all vying for a coveted place in the national tournament. This season, 62 players made it through the qualifiers to join the 85 exempted players at Shinnecock Hills Golf Club, after more than 10,000 hopefuls initially signed up.
This year’s standout narrative was the impressive display of youthful talent across the nation, as several top young amateurs successfully secured their places in the 126th U.S. Open. Leading the charge was Miles Russell, the world’s top junior player.
Russell, accompanied by his friend and future Florida State teammate Charlie Woods as his caddy, showcased resilience at BallenIsles Country Club in Palm Beach Gardens. Despite a challenging round that included a triple bogey and a double bogey, he finished 6 under par over 36 holes, earning a spot in a playoff. Russell clinched his U.S. Open berth with a birdie on the second playoff hole, triumphing over Tyler Collet, and is set to compete with the elite on Long Island next week.
Russell wasn’t the only high schooler to make headlines by qualifying for the U.S. Open. Giuseppe Puebla, ranked No. 2 by the AJGA, also secured his entry through the BallenIsles qualifier. Meanwhile, Jackson Ormond, a native of New York, earned his place via the Gaston Country Club qualifier in North Carolina. Both Puebla and Ormond are committed to playing college golf at Florida, setting the stage for future rivalries with Russell and Woods.
Alongside the rising stars, several seasoned tour professionals also capitalized on the qualifiers to join the U.S. Open roster. Veteran players such as J.B. Holmes, Billy Horschel, Keith Mitchell, and Graeme McDowell successfully earned their places, granting them another shot at a major championship.
Below you can find the full field for the 2026 U.S. Open, starting with those who won spots in qualifiers followed by those who have made it in via exemptions. There are still spots that can be earned at the RBC Canadian Open, as the top 60 in the world rankings as of June 15 (next Monday) can play their way into the current 146-player field.
