A 57-year-old man in Connecticut will spend the rest of his days behind bars for brutally killing his longtime girlfriend, fatally stabbing the woman before sitting down on her couch and calling people to tell them what he had done as he waited for police to arrive.

Superior Court Judge Christopher A. Pelosi last week ordered Kevin Bard to serve a sentence of 70 years in a state correctional facility for the 2020 slaying of 58-year-old Catherine Streeto-Michaud, authorities announced.

Court records reviewed by Law&Crime show that a New Britain jury in December found Bard guilty on one count of murder, three counts of violating a protective order, and one count of violating a standing criminal protective order. Pelosi sentenced Bard to 50 years on the murder charge, 10 years for violating the protective order and 10 years for violating the criminal order, with the sentences to run consecutively, meaning one after another.

According to a news release from the New Britain State’s Attorney’s Office, prosecutors at trial showed evidence that after Bard killed Streeto-Michaud, he called multiple family members and friends and confessed to killing her inside of her home.

“State’s Attorney Watson extends his sincerest condolences to Ms. Streeto-Michaud’s family and friends for the loss of their beloved, whom they described as a kind and vibrant woman,” the state’s attorney’s office said in a statement. “This was a senseless and horrific crime and we are grateful for the ability to seek justice on behalf of Ms. Streeto-Michaud and her family, as well as the people of the State of Connecticut, who have too often witnessed the deadly consequences of domestic violence.”
