(The Hill) — Former President Joe Biden’s regular medical exam last week revealed a “small nodule” on his prostate, his spokesman confirmed on Tuesday.

“In a routine physical exam, a small nodule was found in the prostate, which necessitated further evaluation,” a Biden spokesperson told The Hill’s sister network . The spokesperson did not elaborate further.

Biden, 82, spent time Friday in a Philadelphia hospital, according to The New York Times, which first reported on the development.

Biden left the Oval Office in January as the oldest serving commander-in-chief in U.S. history.

The former president had a lesion on his chest removed during his physical exam in 2023. It was a basal cell carcinoma, according to the president’s physician, Dr. Kevin O’Connor.

“The site of the biopsy has healed nicely and the President will continue dermatologic surveillance as part of his ongoing comprehensive healthcare,” the doctor said at the time.

Biden’s four-year term was marked by worries about his health and advanced age. The former president dropped his reelection bid in July.

The ex-president has returned to the spotlight in recent weeks, though his reemergence has ignited blowback from some Democrats. He sat down with the BBC for his first interview since leaving the White House and appeared on ABC’s “The View” alongside his wife, former first lady Jill Biden.
