Critics Offer Reality Check After NPR Sues Trump, CEO Insists It Is 'Non-Partisan'

NPR is suing the Trump administration over President Donald Trump’s Executive Order calling for NPR to be defunded.

NPR CEO Katherine Maher stated, “The Executive Order is a blatant breach of the Constitution and the First Amendment’s guarantees of freedom of speech and association, as well as freedom of the press.”

Oh, can we forget about their hot take on why they didn’t initially cover the Hunter Biden laptop story?

They didn’t just fail to cover it, they attacked the story itself.

Maher now acknowledges this was an error. However, they did not shy away from covering topics like the Russia collusion narrative. It’s clear that the audience wasn’t convinced. Maher’s assertion faced significant backlash on X.

Personally, I question the need to fund any domestic media outlet, even if it claims to be “non-partisan.” Today, people have numerous ways to access the news, eliminating the necessity for a government-led source of information. I am skeptical of the argument that such outlets are essential due to a lack of local news in rural areas. Moreover, we certainly don’t need any media outlet that might be biased, and the American taxpayers shouldn’t bear the cost for this.

NPR was mentioned as being in a new bill of DOGE recession cuts that will be coming to Congress next week. House Speaker Mike Johnson said they were very enthused about getting the package.

Hopefully, the package will address this.
