Following a widespread incident in downtown Cincinnati that grabbed nationwide attention, a mayoral candidate is attributing the turmoil impacting residents to lenient bail regulations and poor management of police funding.

In a news conference days after the assault, Mayor Aftab Pureval denounced the attack while vowing to find the assailants and hold them accountable.

“This was a terrible event, and our police force is diligently working to bring those involved to justice,” remarked Pureval. “I want to emphasize that violent crime has no place in Cincinnati, whether it’s brawls or gun-related violence. We will pursue accountability for everyone involved, regardless of who they are.”

“Currently, 64% of the city’s budget is allocated to public safety, but we must recognize that some programs and initiatives are creating a divide between the city and the police department, affecting where these funds should be distributed.”

He highlighted several community initiatives that he feels are depleting resources meant for law enforcement and endangering public safety.

“For years, these initiatives have accumulated, siphoning funds from our city budget,” Bowman stated. “All resources should be redirected to the police department. We need more patrols, a larger recruiting class, and a robust approach to tackle the current issues.”

The mayor’s office did not respond to Fox News Digital’s multiple requests for comment.
