Noem and the DHS Have One Funny, Parting Shot on Their 'South Park' Portrayal

Advocates for open borders and supportive media are expressing alarm once more. The Associated Press presents Louisiana’s initiative to detain unauthorized immigrants as a “warning.” However, this portrayal is misleading; it is, in fact, a rational reaction to the influx of unauthorized individuals entering the country due to the Biden administration’s neglect of immigration responsibilities.

Governor Jeff Landry (R) of Louisiana is not creating a humanitarian crisis—as some suggest—but is instead setting up a detention facility dubbed “Belle Reve” for individuals associated with cartels, gangs, and other criminal activities. Part of the Louisiana State Penitentiary, colloquially known as Angola, will serve to hold some of the most dangerous detainees reported by ICE, according to Noem. This is a sensible measure to manage a significant border security issue.

For those who are not followers of comic books, Belle Reve is a fictional high-security prison in DC Comics, where high-risk, superhuman criminals are detained. This fictional scenario mirrors the current crisis, with the Biden administration releasing dangerous elements into society. In contrast, Louisiana, with support from the Trump administration, aims to confine such threats appropriately.

Critics, including Alanah Odoms from the ACLU, argue that Louisiana’s actions represent an intentionally harsh humanitarian crisis. This type of rhetoric, often found among those who oppose stricter immigration control, overlooks the real strain placed on American citizens—through drug-related issues, gang activities, and overburdened public services—by inadequate border security.

Using a state prison and a National Guard base is a fiscally responsible and strategically brilliant move. It’s a statement that America will no longer be victimized by the prior administration’s malicious incompetence. We will use every tool at our disposal to defend our people.

The choice could not be clearer. On one side: weakness, open borders, and the chaotic embrace of lawlessness. On the other: strength, security, and the rule of law. Louisiana has chosen a side. It has chosen to partner with the Trump administration and refurbish the facilities necessary to help incarcerate the very real villains of Biden’s border crisis. Every red state governor should be watching and following Louisiana’s (and Florida’s) lead. This is how we start taking our country back, one secured detention facility at a time.
