Trump announces Miami will officially host the G20 summit

President Donald Trump announced Friday that next year’s G20 summit will be held in Miami, Florida, at his Trump National Doral Golf Club.

‘Yes, it’s going to be at Doral,’ Trump confirmed, after first simply saying the gathering would be held in Miami.

The president had floated a Doral G20 during his first term, but the plan never came to fruition.

The United States has been chosen to host the gathering of the globe’s top economies next year, with the event slated for December 2026.

“I believe everyone prefers it there because it’s right by the airport. It’s the ideal spot. Everything about it is beautiful,” Trump expressed.

‘They actually requested that we do that because the location is the best,’ the president also claimed.

“And we won’t be profiting from it,” the president assured. “We’ve arranged it so there won’t be any financial gain, no monetary involvement. I just want it to be successful.”

The president said that each world leader would be treated to a separate building at his golf club.

President Donald Trump confirmed that the meeting of world leaders will occur at his Trump National Doral Miami in Doral, Florida, which is conveniently near Miami’s international airport.

He’s used Doral for several political events over the years, including fundraisers and a large-scale rally.

The president mentioned that he has already extended an invitation to the leader of Poland, President Karol Nawrocki, who visited the White House on Wednesday and was welcomed with a military flyover.

Trump made the announcement alongside Miami’s Republican Mayor Francis Suarez, who ran against the president in the 2024 GOP primary.

Suarez was the first candidate to drop out.

Trump ribbed Suarez briefly in the Oval Office over his short-lived presidential campaign.

‘I want to thank Francis for being here. I thought he might be in this office. You know, he almost got there, just a couple of votes, couple of votes, right? It’s not as easy as they think,’ Trump teased.

Suarez said the region had already started making preparations for the G20, including that the dates didn’t coincide with Miami’s big December art event, Art Basel.

Last year, President Joe Biden attended the G20 on behalf of the United States in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, just days after Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris was defeated by Trump in the 2024 presidential election.

Trump reiterated that he won’t be attending this year’s G20 summit, which is being hosted by South Africa.

‘I won’t be going this year, it’s in South Africa, I won’t be going,’ he said.

Trump said Vice President J.D. Vance would be going in his stead.

The president had an explosive meeting with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa in May, publicly shaming him for a purported ‘white genocide’ in the Oval Office.

It was almost as contentious as Trump’s late February meeting in the Oval with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Trump’s relationship with Zelensky has improved, as he continues to try and work out an ending to the Ukraine war with Russia.

In the Oval on Friday, Trump was also asked if he planned to invite Russian President Vladimir Putin to the 2026 G20 summit.

‘That’s interesting. I haven’t thought of that,’ he said of extending Putin an invite. ‘No, I haven’t thought of that, that’s an interesting question, I’m going to think about that for a little while.’
